| Wendel Clark - Leaf Legend |
As a quick introduction to my on-going blog Leaf St., being the editor and all, I thought I would start off by telling you all a little about myself and why I love the Leafs. Born a 2 hour drive down the 401 from Toronto, in the (not so small) city of London Ontario, it was inevitable that some day I would become the biggest Leafs fan of all time (besides you, you, and you... oh and you of course). Like the majority of Canadians it wasn't the 6 am practices, the endless skating drills (at 6 am) or the freezing cold barns that got me hooked on the game of hockey. It was the friends you met, the goals you scored, the first time you heard your name announced or the first time you raised that shiny plastic trophy (you know that one in the dusty box, you refuse to throw away). And although I continue to enjoy the game of hockey recreationally, unfortunately like the overwhelming majority, my dreams of becoming the next Wendel Clark never came to fruition (damn, backwards skating). To me, the Leafs are not just another hockey team. They are my idols, they are my dream, they're what I look forward to on Saturday nights, they are the blue and white, but most of all... they represent my youth (6am practices included). That is why I love the Leafs.
